The one who didn't get it

Hey my name is Sam and the reason i have started this blog is to tell you about Cystic Fibrosis from a siblings perceptive.

So as you can probably tell from the title i was the lucky one who did not get it, however this doesn't mean i managed to escape from CF.

I was my mums first born and all was good until my sister came along hattie when i was 3 years old in 1990, my parents knew something was not right, back then it was not routine for all children to be tested for CF like today. So when she was showing symptoms of CF it was initially ignored.

She looked malnourished, was failing to thrive and was a really unhappy baby, obviously as a 3 year old I do not remember all these details.

Hats was finally diagnosed at 9 months, my parents were still quite young, they had a young family with the added pressure of trying to figure out what CF was.

The whole family were then tested to identify where the gene came from. Lucky for everyone else in the whole family it was only us that was unlucky and inherited the faulty gene.

So both my parents were carriers but did not know, lucky for me i only inherited one faulty gene. I may not have CF but i have lived with CF for the last 30 years with my sister.
